Newfound Interest to Wentworth Community After Introduction Kickoff

Jason Rinehart May 24th, 2023

The event we have all been looking towards, new goals in sight.

On Thursday, members and advisors of Wentworth PicoSat gathered to deliver their latest updates in design, prototyping, and testing. New hardware was on public display, including communications radios, prototype printed circuit boards (PCBs), and 3D satellite models. After each member introduced themselves, they took the opportunity to show their skills and common vision to the community. A live demonstration of radio transmission painted a picture of current operations of the Communications team. An in-depth sample of projects within PicoSat was followed by a review of PicoSat’s connections, both internal and external. Finally, the group was able to open a discussion between family members, friends, students, alumni, and faculty. For multiple guests present for this event, this was their first visit to Wentworth’s campus.

We would love to see you at our next event, stay tuned with our Events page for updates!

Antenna Deployment Success During Freshman Design Showcase

Trout Marnell, Jason Rinehart April 11th, 2023

A fundamental aspect of satellite deployment involves the process of "unfolding" upon reaching orbit. This is a crucial step to reduce satellite volume within a rocket fairing. Ensuring this process is completely reliable is a challenge to overcome. Enter Trout Marnell and his team of skilled innovators, Aiden Leduc and Sebastian Brown, who are on a mission to demonstrate a design for the final model of Wentworth’s first picosatellite.

During the showcase event, the freshman students ran multiple live demonstrations of their current system, composed of two tape measure antennas, fishing line, and a resistor. The resistor successfully burned the fishing line, causing the tape measures to release under their tension. The quick deployment action surprised the spectators at the showcase — students of all years, professors, and school staff.
